  Abi

  I was born in Yogjakarta, which is known throughout the world for handcrafted silver, and also for being the home to the great Sultans.  I grew up very aware of the ancient decorative arts of my culture, and while I thought this was beautiful, I always enjoyed simple designs, plain strong lines, being able to see the material itself as much as the pattern or design.  This is why, when I began to work in silver, I always went towards designs that were somewhat contemporary, lineal and bold.   My work today is still like that.  My desire is to represent in silver the beauty of the metal itself in very simple forms that are carefully thought through. With each piece, I place a great deal of effort into its quality.  My desire is to give the best of myself in my work, so that each piece looks beautiful on anyone who wears it.

  Anna

  Venetian by origin, Anna learned the art of making high jewelry at The School of Art and Jewelry of Vicenza. She then traveled through Asia searching for art, textiles and antiques, and began blending influences of Asian art with her jewelry-making skills. Anna fuses high fashion with rich organic textures and surfaces by combining gemstones, gemstone beads, Chinese jades, freshwater pearls, silver, gold and hand-carved pieces, often in unusual arrangements.  She uses the Balinese tradition of granulation for spectacular clasps, and well-designed technical details make her closures art pieces by themselves. Each piece is individually handmade by Anna and her selected team of highly skilled Balinese artisans. No molds or casts are applied.

  Anni

  Anni grew up in the Berkshires and went on to live in Indonesia for many years with her Javanese husband Mel and their two children.  During this time she designed and produced high-end crafts, blending traditional Indonesian arts with a western aesthetic. Anni switched to silver jewelry in 2005, cultivating her connections to top international jewelry designers in Bali, and bringing her experience as a designer of wood and textile art into her work with silver.  Anni's designs are simple enough for daily wear yet have a flair or quirky aspect, or are bold and classic.   She enjoys incorporating shells, wood, stones and pearls into her work in organic or funky ways, letting nature speak for itself whenever possible.

  Awi

  Born on the island of Bangka, Indonesia, Awi's childhood in the tropical wilderness gave him a lasting appreciation of the natural world.  He later left this world to spend years as a French speaking guide, teacher and translator, travelling extensively in Europe and later Japan. When he returned to Bali, he managed a jewelry shop and discovered his calling to design and sell jewelry. In 2008 he opened his own shop in Seminyak, Bali.  His designs are fresh and contemporary.   Budi

  Born and raised in east Java, Budi's artistic sensibility comes out of his Javanese apreciation for detail.   He uses fine silverwork to echo the ornate aesthetic of his own traditions.  At the same time, Budi's work has been influenced by a western market favoring simplicity and practicality.  Ultimately, the dual pull of both the western and eastern influence has allowed Budi great freedom to explore form, texture, detail and shape.  The variety of his work is a testament to his willingness to test the boundaries.

  Joanna & Ketut

  Nature is our main inspiration when creating designs.
  Joanna, from Canada, designs with her Balinese husband Ketut. As a young woman Joanna lived and worked in Korea and Japan, and learned jewelry making in Chiang Mai, Thailand.  She traveled at one point to Bali where she met Ketut.   
  Ketut was born into a family of wood carvers but turned his talents to silver when he married to Joanna.  They started their own silver workshop and Joanna honed her own silversmithing skills under the tutelage of a silversmith Master from Celuk.   Ketut and Joanna now own 4 stores and run a successful jewelry workshop in Bali.

  Marija

  Marija Mitrovic grew up in Montenegro and her jewelry is very much inspired by the untouched and rugged nature of her home country. Her designes speak through the varried colors and shapes of semi-precious stones, pearls and opals.  Marija has been living in Bali for 15 years, and has established a strong team of Balinese craftspeople to realize her designs.  Her work can be found in galleries in Europe, Australia and the USA.

  Mira

  Mira was born in Yogyakarta, Indonesia and traveled the world as a young woman, absorbing cultures and traditions that now influence her art.  She is now based in Bali for the international culture bath the island represents.  Her designs use local wood, shells and stones to create natural but modern compositions, reflecting the creative and trendy image of the new Indonesian generation of designers and creators. Her team of highly skilled silversmiths, shell and stone-cutters assist her in making physically possible what her vision dictates.

  Patra

  Patra learned silversmithing from his father, who learned it from his father, and so on.   He grew up in Celuk, the area in Bali specializing in silversmithing, and you can see in his designs the great inherritance of silversmithing skills and techniques that have been honed and passed down through generations.  Patra's designs are not predictable, but range from simple work with shells in which he just gently enhances the beauty in nature's material, to elaborate and challenging work in silver involving techniques of granulation, oxidization, filigree, and hammering, among many others.

  Sergio

  Sergio Velazques hails from Argentina, where he began his work as an artist, primarily photography (see the photos of the silversmiths on the FAIR TRADE page of this website).  When he moved to Bali, he became intrigued with silver and the many possibilities for texturing silver through granulation, hammering, and etching and oxidizing.  Sergio’s focus and interest is on the metal itself, rather than stones, wood or other medium.  His designs emphasize shape, form, and texture.  Sergio only works in 950 silver, preferring its warmer tone and higher quality.  He works with his own team of silversmiths, and he has taught them techniques from Argentina and Europe to blend with their more traditional Balinese methods of working the metal.

  Susanne

  Swiss-born and world traveled with Indonesia as her current home, Susanne's free spirit and passion for beauty shines through in the jewelry that she has been creating for the past 20 years. Her jewelry company is a comfortable and casual environment with many of the employees having been there since its conception in 1986. Each artisan takes special care to handcraft every piece using traditional techniques. In this way, Susanne's designs integrate modern influences as well as a rich cultural heritage.
